Foundation should make the face look even. It hides darkness, sunspots, freckles and pigmentation and gives a healthy radiant look.
In addition, most cosmetic companies today produce foundation with a sun protection factor (SPF) which protects the face from damage caused by the sun as well as from soot and dirt. Foundation also protects the skin from powder-based makeup products (powder, eye shadow and blush) which can dry it.
Matcing the foundation to skain type and tone, is the make up basis.
